4 stringer in your hands!
I can make you a guitar with just about any theme and any color.

uumm... wait a minute,  guitar building?

OK, I am a bit nutty in the morning without my Flap Jacks and Ovaltine, and since I am here writing
this romantic online "tell all" I will admit up front, I love digging in old thrown out garbage, NOT food
garbage, but household left over stuff people put on the curb. To me it's hypnotic...it beckons for
me..." young lad, come hither n' dig around!" ...I really love the excitement when I see someone
move out and there is a pile of "happiness" calling my name, a little subtle whisper in my ear ..."
come...come...I am here, just below this thing, right under this mysterious stack o' goodness..."I
could be yours, turn me into something, give me life!"

So, yeah, that's how it starts, that is where I get most of my wood and just about all of my guitars
were at some point long ago someone's abused and unwanted chair, bed or table, just imagine the
stories they could tell if they could talk?...or wait they can, better yet...they can now SING!

Truth is, I've never been trained in any type of woodworking or guitar construction. Since I'm not
educated in any form of carpentry I prefer to call myself a craftsman with a passion for history. I
have been building all forms of homemade guitar since I was in my early teens.
Everything I do is by hand and eye, pocketknife (ol' Timer or McCoy) wood file, sandpaper and
chisel. It's not because I don’t want to use power tools, but for the simple reason that I have noticed
better results sanding and cutting by hand. I think machines are wonderful and they help other
people save time. But for me, they always seem to create a lot of dust and because they work so
fast they make me nervous when they start skipping and jumping around, they always seem to
cause more problems than they solve.

I sell my guitars as playable art or as "Americana," they are built by hand and far from perfect. In
fact, that is where the charm comes from. You can listen for yourself at the many videos posted
online of my homemade creations and decide if this is the style and type of music that interests you
or you would like to play, true, they are not for everyone. Here is some vintage cigar box guitar
music from along time ago, have a listen and decide if this is your style.
What's this? You guessed it! A full album with only 3 string cigar box guitar music. This is the
album for the cigar box guitar aficionado. In this album I wanted to delve deeper into strictly
authentic Delta Blues and BottleNeck music
only played on three string cigar box guitar.
The goal with this album was to take the listener back to the 20's and 30's and relive those Dust
Bowl BottleNeck Ballads and Delta Blues Spirituals only with a 3 string cigar box guitar.
These are ALL NEW NEVER BEFORE HEARD SONGS!

This disc is soulful Blues that will change your musical life. If you love raw, primitive and Authentic
Delta Blues, American Folk music or Bottle neck slide, you will listen to this CD 100's of times,
covering all styles of BottleNeck Americana, from Son House's licks re-written
"Red Dog" Style, to Woodie Guthrie's "Dust Bowl Ballads" that will leave your jaw on the floor and
your ears weepin' for more.

...and if there ever is a Blues "RED" Button warning, you definitely will enjoy the song "Ryland",
imagine walking through a ghost town in the 1880's, the suspense, the mystery, the whispers that
you can barley hear, this is a fantastic song played in the Ry Cooder style that will take your
breath away.
NO regular guitars, NO singing, just homemade 3 string cigar box guitars.
Whelp, enough chatter from me, the album is for sale anytime, give it a try, you'll love it!  if it's not
your thing, thanks for your time in reading this. Thanks again, John

take a guess...
It's made with recycled American Oak. That old table never had it sooo good!
One of my favorite types of 3
string guitars.

I make this Las Cabrillas style of
guitar in lots of colors in both 3
and 4 string, but I do prefer it in 3.

They all sound great, here is a
few examples in both light and
dark colors.

Listen to this song
This is a really fun Cigar Box Guitar Blues CD album. If you liked the movie Crossroads or the
ruff edged guitar playing from Ry Cooder, you will love the vintage 3 string blues and cigar box
guitar playing that has been recorded on this album. It is based on both modern & vintage
Delta Blues, 60's tube amps that are naturally overdriven, and most important, the legendary
Pignose that was used in the movie. These are sounds that are Southern in flavor, perfect for
study if your trying to learn early Americana Bottleneck guitar, or just enjoy it as a relaxing way
to step back in time.

Trying to 'explain' what something sounds like is like trying to describe a color,
so instead of me trying to explain music, you can hear the first track right here right now.
Is this something that would interest you?

~3 strings too many~ music CD
Here is an early 1900's White Owl 4 string Cigar Box Guitar
I would love to have heard it being played back when it was
new, imagine the wonderful sounds!
I enjoy building these guitars whenever I have the chance, most important the have a great
sound, the box is the perfect size in your hands and lap.  Another great aspect is that the
empty boxes are not expensive and easy to find, and unlike the older Padron boxes, they
don't need alot of work to make into a guitar. These are almost perfect right from the cigar
shop!
Check out this old Attic find... Late 1890's, I would love to hear it!
Cigar Box guitars have a naturally vintage tone, they have rich harmonics combined with a
haunting sustain that produce full overtones all from being made with a used cigar box.
This mixture allows for spooky and erie dynamics and a completely authentic early American tone
that can NOT be made with a standard factory built guitar or something imported from in China.
